Due to a technical glitch this week’s sermon was only partly recorded. We still encourage you to take a look at John 1:1-15 which showed us that God provides the “Right Stuff” to establish and maintain our relationship with Him as this passage uses the metaphor of a vineyard where God the father is the vine dresser, Jesus is the true vine and we are vine branches.
- Jesus is the true vine – just like a vineyard comes from a single root stock, Jesus is the single way for us to come to God.
- God the Father is the vine dresser – as the vine dresser is protects and maintains the vineyard so does our Heavenly Father.
- The pruning of the a vineyard is comparable to God’s discipline – Sometimes this process isn’t pleasant; however, it is needed to ensure we remain “healthy to produce fruit”. Additionally, this can sometimes mean pruning something good to allow for something even better.
- The vine branches need to remain attached to the vine to bear fruit – We need to be “plugged into” the true vine, Jesus, in order to bear spiritual fruit. Our relationship should be just that, not a one time event, but something that is continuously maintained.
- Our fruitfulness is a result of consistent prayer and obedience – If we abide in His will our hearts will desire what He desires and our prayers will mirror the desires of His heart. This includes fruitfulness in our lives as evidenced by the Fruit of the Spirit but also in leading people to Jesus.
